Small shop selling traditional, handmade Japanese “washi” paper.
Akizuki used to be home to more than 20 different paper producers but today only one remains, founded in 1876. For many years the shop’s washi was made by the present family head’s blind father but has now been passed onto the next generation.
Here you can observe the traditional methods of paper production as well as purchase a range of paper colors, sizes and textures. You can find the shop down a side road off the main road leading into Akizuki.
