Koshin-ji Temple

One of Akizuki’s largest temples, with important links to the Kuroda Family.

Koshin-ji Temple was founded in 1647, in the fourth year of the Shoho period. The site has an extensive graveyard which hosts a number of key figures from Japanese history.

Importantly for Akizuki a number of the Kuroda clan (the feudal lords of Akizuki from the Edo period onwards) are buried here, including Kuroda Nagamasa, the forefather of the Kuroda Clan. At the top of the grounds the grave of Usui Rokuro can be found, famous for his involvement in the last rebellion against the Meiji government.
