A beautifully restored samurai residence with gardens.
Hisano Tei is a wonderful example of what the life of a samurai would be like: featuring an entrance hall, guest rooms, garden and outhouses. The two-story residence is built from Japanese cedar. Inside a range of artworks and local crafts can be viewed as well as traditional toilets, a bath and rooms.
This is one of the few houses in Akizuki that retains the appearance of a samurai residence. The house was the residence of the Hisano samurai family but after falling into disrepair in the late 20th century the house was purchased by Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical Co. and opened to the public in 2009.
